EMDR

EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured talking therapy that helps people recover from difficult or traumatic experiences.

It uses ā€œbilateral stimulation,ā€ such as side-to-side eye movements, sounds, or tapping, while you focus on upsetting memories. This helps the brain process these memories so they feel less intense and less distressing over time.

EMDR is an evidence-based treatment recommended by NICE (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) for PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). It is also being used to help with other difficulties such as anxiety, phobias, addictions, and some physical health problems like chronic pain.

Before working on difficult memories, we spend time building safety and support, including grounding and coping strategies to help you feel more stable and in control. When you are ready, we then gently process distressing memories so they become less upsetting, and we also work on strengthening more helpful and positive beliefs about yourself.

Training and current practice
I am currently in the training process for EMDR and am working towards full qualification. Because of this, I am selective about the types of difficulties I am currently offering EMDR for. If you are unsure whether your needs would be suitable, we can talk this through together before starting.
